Super Club teams representing Christchurch Netball have been announced for the Netball Mainland Super Club Competition starting this weekend.
The Super Club Competition is run over two weekends, with eight teams competing in two pools of four teams.
Competition commences on Saturday, 14 March with games in Christchurch at Cowles Stadium. Games continue on Sunday, with finals held the following weekend at Saxton Stadium, Nelson.
Christchurch Netball will be represented by Halswell Netball Club, and Kia Toa Netball Club. The remaining six teams represent Nelson, Selwyn (two teams), Marlborough, Hokitika and West Coast.
Halswell’s Krissy Wilkinson said the tournament will help them prepare for the coming season. ‘This is the second year that Halswell has been involved in Super Club and after our success in building up our team last year, we applied to enter again. As this is a relatively new team, sorting out combinations and getting to know each other better, on and off the court, will be a big factor for this tournament’, she said.
Kia Toa Coach, Corrina Ruki is using this Tournament as more build up for the South Island Maori Tournment, where the Club is going for its fifth successive title. ‘We are looking to strengthen our links and build successful combinations in this Tournament to set us up for the upcoming season’, she said.
The Netball Mainland Super Club Competition precedes the Christchurch Netball Centre Winter Preseason Tournament to be held at Pioneer Stadium on the weekend of 28 and 29 March.
Winter Club Competition at the Christchurch Netball Centre starts on 21 April with Round One of Premier Competition. Saturday competition commences in the afternoon of 25 April.
