Kay Jenkins has been a valued volunteer in netball from the late 1990s.
She tells us about where it all started to where she is now.
My first memory of netball was going to the netball courts with my mother who played for Hutt Valley and was a New Zealand Referee (that’s what they were called then).
I have been involved in netball and netball administration ever since I can remember.
I played netball as a youngster for the Naenae Old Girls Netball Club in the Hutt Valley and started my administration with this Club becoming Secretary/Treasurer and also coaching various teams.
I represented the Hutt Valley at many National tournaments and became a member of the Hutt Valley Executive Committee where I also undertook the role of Publicity Officer for a couple of seasons.
Moving to the West Coast in 1979 I played for and coached the High School Old Girls Club and also coached the West Coast Senior representative team. In those days this team took part in New Zealand Tournament. I was also a member of the West Coast Executive.
On moving to Christchurch in 1981 I joined the South Brighton Club where I played, coached and was on their Committee.
I have coached and managed Canterbury representative teams and was a member of the Christchurch Executive from 1997 to at least 2007. I was awarded a Service Award in 2002.
I had a break for a few years and came back in 2013 to work in the office and I am now Convenor of the Competitions Committee.
I particularly enjoy being in the office on Saturdays and am pleased to give something back to the sport I have had so much out of.
